Adrienne Herr works with the voice and language through installation, live performance and the page. The immediacy of speech is employed via her improvisational method, yet the visceral is ultimately reproduced and fabricated under study of how the body resonates language. Humor and theatricality accompany philopoetic connections between the building and the breaking of so-called hyper meaningful words. The singular voice is rendered multiple by her use of extended vocal techniques, character development and compositions for multiple speakers. Her scores have a level of specifity akin to music, while a background in experimental poetics directs her approach to language-based composition.
